[Libs-Or] reference question for airplane buffs or 1980's Oregon History experts

I could have entered this into Answerland, but I've got a feeling that the
question would have ended up here anyway. A patron came in looking for
articles referencing the following - apparently, there was an airline pilot
who lived in Corvallis who, in the 1980s or early 1990s, stole commercial
airplanes and flew them across the border so that the airplanes could be
broken down for parts for sale. The patron said that this become a national
story with an FBI sting involved.

I've checked the databases available to our Library as well as Oregon
Historical Newspapers. As I told the patron, with that large a timeframe,
it is a bit of a shot in the dark.

If there's anyone who recalls such a story or who can find some articles
referencing it, could you get back to me with the pilot's name, time period
that this took place, and citations?

Many thanks,

Bryan Miyagishima, Linn-Benton Community College Library
