[Libs-Or] How to determine a target print collection size for an academic library?

Hi All,

I'm working on a plan for the Umpqua Community College library and need determine how large of a print collection we should aim for. I already have a good justification for why we need a print collection in general (in addition to our digital collections), but I need to provide a justification for how large the print collection should be.

I'm having a really hard time finding information to determine how large a print collection should be and what factors would go into determining that.

Other than comparing the print collection sizes or budgets in relation to FTE for other colleges, does anyone know of research or best practices to determine the print collection size?

Thank you!

Best,
