Subject: [Libs-Or] REFORMA Oregon Statement Condemning Violence against Black, Indigenous and all People of Color

-On behalf of REFORMA Oregon-

REFORMA Oregon wholeheartedly supports the <https://www.reforma.org/bcalasolidarity> statement released by REFORMA National that acknowledges and stands in solidarity with the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA) that condemns violence and racism toward Black, Indigenous and all people of color. REFORMA Oregon supports the right to protest and demands the end to white supremacy, police violence, systemic and institutionalized racism, and the militarization of police forces.

As an organization that promotes Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish speaking community, we feel it is important to state that we are an Anti Racist organization, engaging in Anti Racist studying and applying to our work as individuals and as a professional organization. Our Anti Racist work can serve as a model for ongoing anti-oppression work in the future. REFORMA Oregon intends to formulate a plan of action that we will share with our community and colleagues soon.

The 400 plus year history of systemic anti-Black racism and oppression in this country is not new, and embedded into the founding of the State of Oregon. The recent murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd highlight that there is significant work to be done. REFORMA Oregon acknowledges that our identities do not equate to our morality. As an organization in the State of Oregon that has a history of institutionalized racism towards Black people, REFORMA Oregon is committed to taking the initiative in working on being part of a larger change in our community.

In Solidarity

REFORMA Oregon.
