Join us for these two upcoming online classes

EAD3: The Basics
This course consists of four two-hour session:
Tuesday, January 19, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm CST
Thursday, January 21, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm CST
Tuesday, January 26, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm CST
Thursday, January 28, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm CST

The Encoded Archival Description (EAD) is an internationally recognized XML-based standard for encoding archival finding aids. This workshop will provide a solid introduction to EAD3, the current version of the standard. Participants will mark up a supplied finding aid in EAD and transform it using XSLT into an HTML document for displaying the finding aid online. Topics covered will include: an introduction to XML, the history of EAD, factors to consider when deciding to implement EAD at your institution, and the structure of an EAD document.

Introduction to Archival Practices
This course consists of four 90-minute sessions:
Tuesday, January 26, 10:00 am - 11:30 am CST
Thursday, January 28, 10:00 am - 11:30 am CST
Tuesday, February 2, 10:00 am - 11:30 am CST
Thursday, February 4, 10:00 am - 11:30 am CST

This NEW course provides an overview of archival practice for those librarians that suddenly find themselves working with archival material. Participants will learn how to assist patrons with archival requests, creating and implementing basic procedures, and useful workflows. The course will cover: what constitutes an archive, working with collections, describing and organizing archival materials, creating a finding aid, and collection maintenance
