Greetings!

We are in the beginning phases of planning for an expansion to our library. Our plan is to add study rooms, meeting space(s), and a larger room for bigger programs. It does seem strange to be planning spaces for meetings and programs right now, but we're anticipating a return to our previous levels of usage and the needs that we had a couple of years ago. We used to get asked about study rooms a lot!

Our building is approximately 18,000 sq ft with a service population of about 60,000. Currently we have one mid-size (~1000 sq ft) community room, but no study rooms. We're wondering what other libraries currently have for rooms and what you wish you had. Here are some things we are inquiring about at this stage:

  * What are your study room dimensions and furnishings? Would you like something different?
  * What are your meeting/conference room dimensions and furnishings? Would you like something different?
  * What kind of AV equipment do you have built into/available in your space(s)?
  * Are there upgrades to that equipment are you planning/wishing for?
  * How do you schedule room use? Do you take reservations for your rooms or are they first come/first served?

We would be grateful for any answers or ideas around these questions. Also, is there something not listed here we should be thinking about? Let us know!

Take care,
Doug Jones
