HARDWARE - What Do You Do with Old Electronics?
Novice
[recycle electronics]
Do you have a drawer, cabinet or box where all of your outdated electronic devices live? You may save cords, headsets, and monitors because they "may" be needed in the future. And you can't just throw away old or broken mobile phones, tablets or laptops because they contain chemicals or batteries that are harmful to the environment.
E-waste IS a problem. So, what can you do with electronic equipment that you no longer use? Let's take a look at how you can repurpose, donate, or safely dispose of/recycle – no matter where you live.
NOTE: Make sure if you have a device that has your personal information on it, you wipe it clean before disposing. This 2021 Consumer Report article tells you how<https://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001bdRifGWXiSQlWACerlvdoldLgUrdi8zrjgZ91_gtahfY08NXoZ-mjdwFmQl2NHIAc-P6zvu8IttiyN9ha615VCLVHXEnkCe2e5AahJVlHknUIwIK1tCLqMbxlliJdqhITb39_GiYzirDmfswfNwQDQiy1nZekRpu5GJmW_UtQlV6_1KfFI5GD5zogCcznH4iv5PJoEn7C27GxSSgRRpDqeUDZtzGlLOmlqXywj0QHjubcS0GW7_Qkn3VDMbzSA9r&c=WQdSnG82wGHGo6W8DGfcdLR9-4SGfPffcACu13wAzDzt4zcBQ70v3g==&ch=ExSoVe1dLzMvNSw9Zjevf-O9EPfXR6CPXcOWM44jSKeio7gDwIBo4A==>.
Make Some Cash
For some electronics, like smartphones, tablets or smartwatches, new models are coming out constantly while the older ones are still relevant.
[SellCell]
If you're purchasing a new "smart" device, check with your service provider for trade-in deals. Or take a look at some of these sites to see where you can get instant cash:
https://www.sellcell.com<https://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001bdRifGWXiSQlWACerlvdoldLgUrdi8zrjgZ91_gtahfY08NXoZ-mjdwFmQl2NHIAenMLQJy4zHc2QPyZRc6Omy-ca6uQe8yPpZvbQj4I8fQGIFLaqyP_1bdgNLkC3qIesGVObGCDI5-erUwnwoF-gA==&c=WQdSnG82wGHGo6W8DGfcdLR9-4SGfPffcACu13wAzDzt4zcBQ70v3g==&ch=ExSoVe1dLzMvNSw9Zjevf-O9EPfXR6CPXcOWM44jSKeio7gDwIBo4A==> - This site compares trade-in values from more than 40 buyback companies to find you the best deal for your smartphone.

TIP: When sending in a device to any company, take pictures of it before mailing. True story, I turned in a phone that was in perfect condition. When received, they revised the quoted offer and gave me a lower amount than originally promised as they said it had a cracked screen. My picture provided evidence that it did not and I received the full amount.
Give It New Life
Even if you cancel your mobile contract with your provider to make calls, a smartphone is still a mini-computer. With (or without) local wi-fi, a phone or tablet can have other uses. Here are some re-purpose ideas.
[phone as clock]
· Use as a bedside alarm clock.
· Convert it to be an e-reader.
· Use it as a dedicated camera or video camera.
· A tablet can become a video-conferencing station.
· Children can use a phone or tablet for games.
· Hook your device up to a speaker for a dedicated sound system using iTunes, Spotify, or Pandora.
Donate Your Electronics
You may have older devices that no longer have a resale value, but may be needed by others. Think about donating them. Of course there are many deserving causes; here are some options...
Goodwill – Check with your local store. Most will take computers, laptops, cell phones, printers, and more.
Your Local School, Library or Senior Centers – Classrooms often need electronics in newer working condition. Contact local administrators for options.

Communication: Email
Start with "Oops"
OK, sometimes you make a mistake with an email message. Perhaps you forgot to add the attachment. Maybe you sent the wrong document. You could have mentioned incorrect data.
In any case, no matter what you've done, when you go to correct it ... and you send a follow-up message ... try starting the Subject with "Oops."
This single word (Oops) quickly conveys that there has been a problem and here comes the fix. At the same time, it doesn't drip with "I'm sorry, I made a mistake" and needless explanations.
· "Oops, here is the reschedule link."
· "Oops, a correction for our call tomorrow."
· "Oops, here are the transactions for you."

Leadership
Employees are walking billboards for your organization
Yes, whether you like it or not, employees (and volunteers) are walking billboards for your organization ... twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
You will get good or bad press depending on whether the employees are satisfied in the organization, which in turn, depends on how much they feel they are a part of the mission - and how empowered they are.
This requires a three-part process for helping customers and solving problems that builds trust between the employees and the organization.
1. Defined Latitude. Empowered employees know precisely how much give they have in any situation. It means they don't have to second-guess themselves when they make decisions because the manager has specified the bounds of their authority.
2. Where to Go for More. When empowered employees have reached the limit of their authority, they know the steps to take to find out additional information or to make suggestions.
3. Think Outside the Box. Empowered employees are not afraid to think outside the box or offer ideas because they know they have management's support and that the executives want their input. They feel that the organization values their ideas and they strive to devise new ways to help the entity perform better.
With an empowered environment, employees go out into the world spreading great press and convincing others of the value your organization. They become positive mini-marketers!
