POSITION: Weekend Supervisor, Access Services

TYPE: Full-time, SEIU-represented, Library Technician 3 classification

LOCATION: Portland State University Library, Portland, OR

Position Summary

Access Services supports the educational, research and service programs of
the University by facilitating user access to resources within and beyond
the Library. Access Services includes the following units: Circulation,
Reserves, Resource Sharing, the Off-site shelving facility and Stacks
Maintenance.


The Weekend Supervisor coordinates workflow in Access Services during
weekend hours, ensures that support services are completed in a timely
fashion, staffs the Circulation Desk, implements all library policies and
procedures, secures all monies before the end of shift, provides service to
all patrons of the library, and opens and closes the building, ensuring
that library spaces are secure.


The Weekend Supervisor is responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling,
and daily supervision of Access Services student employees. They
participate in the Student Employee Steering committee, working with other
supervisors to coordinate onboarding of new student employees, create
training materials, and plan library events for student employees.


Duties include:

   -

   Coordinates and leads the weekend operations of the library, including
   Access Services, by ensuring that all library patrons receive prompt,
   courteous service from Access Services staff. This includes shifts where
   the Weekend Supervisor is the only lead worker in the building and is
   responsible for library safety, security, and operations.
   -

   Responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling, and daily supervision
   of student employees in Access Services.
   -

   Supports the daily activities of Access Services by becoming
   cross-trained in basic details of other functions including reserves,
   resource sharing, stacks maintenance, and Library tours.
   -

   Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications from Classification

   -

   Bachelors degree plus two years of current (within 5 years) experience
   in a Library; OR ,
   -

   4 years of current library experience;
   -

   AND, advanced proficiency in multiple library specific computer
   applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications,
   institutional repository; content management systems.
   -

   Some positions may also require in-depth knowledge of specialty area(s),
   e.g., original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, serials management, ILL
   management, government documents, image resources, music.

   Ability to supervise student workers
   -

   General knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation



Preferred Qualifications

   Previous academic library experience


Compensation

The starting hourly rate for this position will be between $19.72/hour and
$20.62/hour. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range,
however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and
abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and
approval from HR.
