COMING UP:

2025 National Day of Racial Healing – WebJunction: The National Day of Racial Healing is an opportunity for people, organizations, and communities to call for racial healing, bring people together in their shared humanity‚ and take action together to create a more just and equitable world.

NDORH was created by W.K. Kellogg Foundation in 2017, building on the work and learnings of the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation (TRHT) initiative, to support  a national and community-based process to plan for and bring about transformational and sustainable change, and to address the historic and contemporary effects of racism.

The National Day of Racial Healing is observed every year on the Tuesday following Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Read on for resources and strategies that libraries can use to encourage community participation in this year's National Day of Racial Healing, on January 21, 2025.

December 16 – January 31: Building Successful Collaborations with Communities<https://www.nnlm.gov/training/class-catalog/building-successful-collaborations-communities> (NNLM)
This course integrates the theory of community engagement with its application to libraries. The course is designed using the Preparation, Action, Reflection model. We will share step-by-step methods and best practices for engaging with communities to co-design and co-develop library offerings. Participants will learn about the community in which their library is located and develop skills to build constructive relationships and bridge cultural differences. They will gain practical experience with engagement methods and share their experiences in implementing several stages of engagement.

Building a maker program is making, too! And keeping the program staffed, funded, and operating smoothly can be daunting.  At this event, we'll guide you through a process for designing, planning, building, and sustaining a makerspace/program using a practical guide, The Makers in the Library Toolkit<https://www.librarymakers.org/posts/makers-in-the-library-toolkit-2nd-ed-overview-download-full-toolkit>. This free-to-download toolkit was updated in 2024 with new content and examples from libraries around the nation, with special emphasis on how to implement a program on a small staff and budget. The suite of five design phases and 21 downloadable tools are adaptable for any type of library or organization interested in creating a maker program.
