Hannah Gascho Rempel, Taylor Ralph, and Adam Lindsley will present Engineering Research in Transition: Assessing Research Behavior while Adapting to Access Changes to Library Resources:
Engineering faculty and graduate students are accustomed to accessing the online full-text of sources through search tools that rely on subscription-based access through their university libraries, open access platforms, as well as through less official access routes. After our library implemented a change in access to content through Elsevier, a publisher that provides access to many engineering scholarly journals, we used this natural experiment to explore this community’s information seeking behaviors. Based on our results, we suggest several recommendations to inform collections and access decisions, as well as instruction and outreach planning.

Kelly McElroy will present a lightning talk on Academic Freedom for Library Workers:
Academic freedom seeks to protect faculty in order to cultivate an environment of free exchange of ideas in higher education, even on controversial topics. We will briefly overview the history of academic freedom, contextualizing it within other speech rights, and considering how it applies (or doesn't) to academic library workers.
