Hello Folks,
Thank you for the wonderfulness you bring to the library community.
Soon you will get an email from Kris and Aurora, the Oregon Library Association Conference Program Chairs that will detail how to submit proposals for the OLA 2025 conference.
In anticipation of the email from the OLA Program Chairs, The Technical Services Round Table Steering Committee invites you to share your Technical Services (and related) wonderful wisdom, experiences, and insights at the next Oregon Library Association Conference, April 2025 in Eugene, Oregon. Hoping you would like to submit to the TSRT Conference Proposal Committee so we can help with any questions and to gather the Technical Services related proposals together for more united advocacy from TSRT.
Are you the acquisitions team virtuoso that helped save the day? Are you the cataloger expert who figured out how to link up this to that? Are you the processor royale that made that thing circulate like a dream? Have you figured out that amazing way to motivate the collection development of the future? Do you know some wicked smart reporting or systems methods? Are you helping in Technical Services other fantastical ways or know someone who will let the world know their awesome story? Folks out in library land want and need to learn what you know to help us all and our communities thrive 😊
As Taylor Worley (our amazing OLA Conference Chair for 2025) said “This can range from a 15-minute lightning talk to a 3-hour block.” Also look for the Poster session information soon.
For folks new to conference proposals/presenting we even have a TSRT-SC conference proposal committee with members Ellie Avis elliea at multcolib.org<mailto:elliea at multcolib.org> and Michael Grutchfield mgrutchfield at pps.net<mailto:mgrutchfield at pps.net> here to help with the Technical Services related conference proposal process, yay!
Submission Due date for TSRT Steering Committee proposal writing help and planning purposes (the OLA 2025 general conference submission is later):
The due date for submissions for help and the TSRT session proposal grouping is Friday, October 11th, 2024. TSRT Conference Proposal Committee will gather submissions to be familiar with them for when it comes to TSRT at the OLA Conference 2025 Conference Program Committee meeting where the submissions are reviewed and confirmed by the OLA Conference Program Committee.
Any ideas and questions are always welcome, [please keep scrolling for helpful information about an example of how conference proposals are often composed]

Example of a common way conference proposals are composed partially derived from a past form, this year’s conference session proposal form will be coming out on September 23rd, the example is just for getting you started:
Submission Due date for TSRT Steering Committee proposal writing help and planning purposes October 11 (the OLA general conference submission is a little bit later):
The due date for submissions for help and the TSRT session proposal grouping is Friday, October 11th, 2024. TSRT Conference Proposal Committee will gather submissions to be familiar with them for when it comes to TSRT at the OLA Conference 2025 Conference Program Committee meeting where the submissions are reviewed and confirmed by the OLA 2025 Conference Program Committee.
Things to think about for your proposal:
You don’t have to have the whole session completely prepared, with slides and all, before you make your proposal, however confirming presenters (if you are not the presenter, and if you have a panel), is critical and here are some other things to think about that the upcoming OLA 2025 submission form will more than likely include:
-What length of conference session are you thinking about?
--Individual or panel presentation (typically around 1-3 hours including time for questions)?
--Facilitated discussion with one or two presenters (typically around 1 hour including questions)?
--Lightning talk usually one presenter (8-10 minutes)
--Poster (requires the creation of a physical poster, usually a tri-fold stand up poster board, and scheduled presence in poster room to discuss.)
--Other:
-Will you be presenting or someone you know or, for example, someone from out of state, how will the presenter arrangements be handled?
-Some info the proposal will include about you as the proposer
--Name:
--Your Pronouns:
--Email address:
--Phone number:
--Institution:
--Do you have co-presenters/Facilitators? If so, include their name(s), pronoun(s), email addresses(es), phone number(s), and institution(s):
OLA Division, Committee, Round Table involvement or area of Libraries addressed in the session:, such as TSRT, Technical Services ; or Library Acquisitions ; or Collection Development ; or Library Cataloging ; or Library Processing ; or, other TS related topic, etc. or?
Abstract of Presentation/Poster/Discussion/Talk/Other*
(Describe your Technical Services+ related conference session presentation/poster/discussion/lightning talk in 200 words or less.)
OLA TSRT also may offer webinars during the year. Please indicate if you'd be willing to present/facilitate this content during the year if we get too many proposals for OLA Conference 2025. We would work with your schedule to select a date.
REMEMBER
Also, you may reach out to a TSRT Conference Proposal Help Committee member with any questions about your Technical Services related proposal process: Ellie Avis elliea at multcolib.org<mailto:elliea at multcolib.org> and Michael Grutchfield mgrutchfield at pps.net<mailto:mgrutchfield at pps.net> and you can reach me as well kjohnson at eugene-or.gov<mailto:kjohnson at eugene-or.gov>
