I'm excited to announce Basic Rights Oregon<http://www.basicrights.org/> will be coming to Salem on August 20th to provide training on Creating a Transgender Inclusive Workplace for managers/supervisors and HR professionals.
The training will cover the dominant societal assumptions around gender and sex and how those assumptions are enshrined in our culture and structures. Through group discussion they will guide attendees to gain a new understanding of gender and sex that validates transgender people and their identities. This will give the participants a strong framework on how to be more inclusive within the workplace and help start to change these dominant assumptions. This training will cover many topics specific to the workplace including usage of correct names and pronouns, confidentiality, access to gendered facilities, correcting one's own mistakes, and many more. The training will close with a discussion on specific actions participants and their teams can take in the short, medium, and longer terms to incorporate these new behaviors to best support transgender people in the workplace.
Please pass this information on to others who may be interested.
