Webinar: Introduction to the Digital Public Library of America Metadata Application Profile
Please join us for an overview of the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA)'s Metadata Application Profile, presented by Gretchen Gueguen, Data Services Coordinator, DPLA. The webinar is offered as part of the joint efforts of the Washington State Library, the Oregon State Library, and the Orbis Cascade Alliance to facilitate a coordinated approach to digital collections in the Northwest.
Webinar date: October 19, 2016 at 10:00 am PDT. Registration is free and the webinar will be recorded.
Gretchen will provide:
* An introduction to the DPLA MAP and its core classes.
* A deeper look at MAP properties and how these typically correspond to local digital collection elements.
* A discussion of the activities institutions can undertake to improve their data and local data-creation practices.
* An explanation of DPLA's enrichment of data supplied by its network of service hubs.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.

With funding from the Oregon State Library's LSTA program through June 2017, the Orbis Cascade Alliance is implementing its Dublin Core metadata standards and developing tools for metadata cleanup, training, and support that will be publicly available. The Washington State Library recently awarded several LSTA-funded grants to libraries for metadata enhancement and remediation activities. See 2016-2017 awards here: https://www.sos.wa.gov/_assets/library/libraries/grants/2016_MER_Awards.pdf. Additional grants will be available to Washington libraries in Spring-Summer, 2017.
