[NWDigitalProjects] Join Community Webs - Explore web archiving to preserve local history and culture

Dear Colleagues,

Applications are open now<https://communitywebs.archive-it.org/apply/> for a new cohort of members to the Internet Archive’s Community Web program.<https://communitywebs.archive-it.org/about/>
Apply by March 31 to participate in this awesome program. Details below, including links to a February 15 information webinar.

 Cedar Mill & Bethany Community Libraries<https://archive-it.org/home/cedarmillbethanylibraries> is a current participant. We are using the training, peer support, and Archive-It service to focus on archiving local history websites and land use planning. You can start small, or dream big 🙂

It would be great to see more Oregon institutions involved in this effort. It’s open to not just public libraries, but many small and large cultural institutions.  Community Webs program open for applications

Apply to join the Internet Archive’s Community Webs<https://communitywebs.archive-it.org/> program. Community Webs is a web archiving program for public libraries and other cultural heritage organizations who would like to preserve contemporary local history and voices that have been traditionally underrepresented in the historic record. The program began in 2017 and we currently have 100+ members across 40 U.S. states and territories.

Community Webs would support you in building community-focused web archives by providing training, technical services, and access to a network of libraries with similar goals, doing the same work together. Community Webs is currently fully funded by a generous grant from the Mellon Foundation. Organizations that join by April 2023 will receive free web archiving services and technical support via a multi-year subscription to Archive-It, professional development stipends totalling $2,200, and subsidized travel to a daylong Community Webs meeting later this year.
