Hi,

The webinar went fairly well.

The webinar recording, slide show, and resources that were shared are available in this Google doc: http://bit.ly/IF-Webinar-Resources. This is the full URL: https://docs.google.com/document/d/196eSN4_mZDvLwcegnH7Rq3Hqi31UAnEGVPxL4kEmizI/edit?usp=sharing.

There is a lot of great information for administrators, school library paraprofessionals, and more. If folks don't have time to watch the whole recording, they can choose specific sections. Timestamps are included in the Google doc linked above.

FYI,
Jen

Subject: Webinar on 8/9...When Books Spark Controversy => Best Practices for Administrators

Hi OLA-IFCers,

I thought you might be interested in this webinar. See info below. The idea was hatched after some of us contacted the Oregon Department of Education because of the OBOB & George situation. We asked that ODE come out with guidelines around handling challenges to materials, and those are forthcoming. During discussions, we thought it would be helpful to offer a webinar.

Miranda Doyle, Ross Betzer, Tamara Ottum, and I have been involved in planning along the way, and Kristin Pekoll from the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom is facilitating the webinar.

FYI, this webinar is not specifically about the OBOB & George situation. Instead, it is about intellectual freedom and how to handle materials challenges. In library circles, I promoted it on the OASL listserv. I believe an OBOB committee person is sending info to the OBOB school contacts. Others are promoting it via administrator channels, especially since the target audience is school administrators.

Thanks,
Jen
