Sharing an ALA-IFC notice and survey about use of facial recognition software in libraries.

Unless trying to mitigate severe safety issues, it’s difficult to imagine libraries would want to be on the forefront of integrating this tech into their security systems.

To: REFORMA <REFORMANet at googlegroups.com <mailto:REFORMANet at googlegroups.com> >

The American Library Association’s Intellectual Freedom Committee (ALA-IFC) has recently convened a Facial Recognition Working Group to explore the implications of facial recognition software in relation to libraries of all types. The group is currently working to put together informational materials, including a Q&A, to assist librarians in answering questions from their communities and colleagues and informing local policy regarding the new trend of facial recognition. The working group would very much appreciate your participation in the linked five question survey. These survey questions will help us to better understand and center the concerns of our library community regarding this type of technology.

Please visit this link to complete the brief, four-question survey: <https://forms.gle/UVzaZeWQeqpatUBA8> https://forms.gle/UVzaZeWQeqpatUBA8

Contact <mailto:OIF at ala.org> OIF at ala.org or <mailto:wjdd10 at cornell.edu> jdd10 at cornell.edu with any questions about this survey. Thank you.
