[OMS_MANAGERS] Artistic Banners

Great! I love our open banners. I’d be happy to help answer any questions.

They are hand sewn by a local lady. Her husband makes/sources the iron holders. He has permission from the city to drill the hole into the sidewalk and install the square insert sleeves.

You’ll see our holder says Albany. There are other versions the have scrolls or other adornments at the top that have been used over the years. A custom top would help unify the banners and set Gold Beach apart from Albany’s design.

The City of Albany sign code has a special rules for Downtown. It specifically allows one “open” banner sign and one A-Frame sign per business. There are also a couple other rules that differ from the rest of town. ADA facilitates the Scouts to install about 100 American Flags along Downtown sidewalks on 11 national holidays. These flags are exempt for the sign code. I have attached a copy of the Albany Police Departments sign code brochure.

Thanks,

Lise

Hello Lise,

Yes! Those are exactly what the board is talking about! We have a lot of wind at town so they were hoping that a shorter banner pole would be a good way to combat that because they're not up as high. Are you a good contact for any questions they might follow up with on those?

Thank you so much,

Lyndsey

Warrenton has 4’+ banners but they are regularly shredded. Would recommend those heights if you have winds like we do at the coast.

We asked ODOT 3 or 4 years ago about banners across the Main Street for Cycle Oregon but that was a huge No Go because our Main Street is Hwy 101!!!! Too many problems with wind, etc.

Hi Lindsey,

Since we completed our Streetscape improvements a few years ago, we have been adding to our collection of “avenue banners” that are tied to the season or an event. They do look great and are often a part of our promotions strategy. Take a look at this example (attached) that shows one of the banners and the well-coordinated hanging basket flowers.

Good morning everyone,

I hope you are all doing well. The Gold Beach Main Street board has gotten funding to install artistic banners in front of various businesses in downtown. Our board members remember seeing shorter banners (about 4 feet tall) in one of the main street towns but they don't remember which town it was in. If you have anything like that would you be willing to send me pictures?

Thanks for the inspiration!
