[Or-srp] Q and A: How much do the sweepstakes materials cost? Nothing!

Hi again,

Many of you are new this year and one of you just asked a question I suspect many of you have.

Q: How much do the sweepstakes materials cost?

A: Nothing, the sweepstakes materials are free! If your library has a child or teen who wins the sweepstakes, your library also gets $500 to spend on your next summer reading program. Up to 15 youth, three in each congressional district, win the sweepstakes each summer so that means up to 15 Oregon libraries also get $500.


Our partner, the Oregon College Savings Plan, works to help families save to send their kids to college. They are very concerned about the achievement gap. They know the research that about 2/3 of the achievement gap is caused by lack of access to summer enrichment programs. Encouraging kids to participate in the summer reading program and supporting libraries in their efforts to offer high-quality summer reading programs is important to the Oregon College Savings Plan because it addresses the achievement gap.  Youth maintain or gain skills during the summer do better in school and are more likely to go to college.

The sweepstakes also includes a statewide media partnership with KATU and free summer reading performers for libraries serving fewer than 10,000 people.
