The 2017 Oregon Summer Reading Brief<http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/youthsvcs/srp.certificates/2017SummerReadingBrief.pdf> has just been published!  The SRP brief is a compilation of data that Oregon public libraries reported this September via the Summer Reading Statistics Survey.  The summer reading brief provides a picture of summer reading in Oregon, with emphasis on data that indicates the impact of summer reading on the summer slide and the opportunity gap.

The Summer Reading Statistics Spreadsheet<http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/youthsvcs/srp.certificates/2017SRPStatistics.xlsx> allows you to compare the summer reading program at your library to similar libraries in Oregon.  If you want to see the summer reading statistics you reported, use the filter option in the first column of the spreadsheet to display your library's data. You can also use this feature to easily compare your data to other selected libraries.

Attached is a template you may use to create a summer reading brief for your own library.

Why create a summer reading report for your library?

*         Help your library director share important information about your summer reading program with your library's governing board (Library Board, City Council, County Commissioners).

*         Build a case to ask for more resources to support an increasing number of youth participating in your summer reading program.

*         Build a case to make changes to your summer reading program to try to reinvigorate it if participation is decreasing.

*         Indicate the possible impact on youth maintaining or improving their reading skills over the summer.

*         Engage new summer reading sponsors and/or partners.
