[OR_Archaeology] TAC Festival starts in 6 days

To our Oregon friends and patrons: Just six days remain before the  ninth 
annual edition of The Archaeology Channel  International Film and Video 
Festival, which will take place in the Recital Hall  at The Shedd in downtown 
Eugene during May 8-12, 2012.  Here is a summary  of what’s happening.  

* 27 of the world’s best films compete for prizes in the Recital Hall at  
The Shedd in downtown Eugene.  See the Festival page at

* Dr. Mark Van Stone, author of “2012: Science & Prophecy of the  Ancient 
Maya,” will speak on “The Maya Calendar and the End of the World” Friday  
night, May 11.”
 
* A full ticket package for the films and the Keynote is $60.  Advance  
ticket purchasers for Festival ticket orders of $20 or more will receive a free 
 2012 Mayan Calendar (while they last) designed by the Maya Exploration 
Center  and featuring Mayan Glyphs for modern dates.  You can reserve tickets 
now  by e-mailing us at _filmfest at archaeologychannel.org_

541-338-3109.  Be sure to give  us the name under which your tickets should be held. 
 The seating capacity  of the Recital Hall is 200.
 
* TAC Conference on Cultural Heritage Film takes place 10 am - 5 pm May  
9-11 in the Univ. of Oregon Baker Downtown Center, including presentations by  
film-makers and others from around the world.  It’s free!
 
* Our Video Bar, also at the Baker Downtown Center 10 am - 5 pm May 9-11,  
and also free, offers the opportunity to view Festival films on individual  
viewing stations.
 
* Dr. Mark Van Stone will conduct a workshop on how to read and write Maya  
glyphs from 3 to 5 pm on Thursday and Friday (May 10 and 11) at the Baker  
Downtown Center.  Dr. Van Stone also will be signing his book on those days  
prior to the workshop and during the Awards Reception (see below).
 
* Willamette National Forest tours will take place during the day on  
Thursday (to the Oregon Central Military Wagon Road) and Friday (to Cascadia  
Cave).  These are free activities and donations are encouraged.
 
* Our Awards Reception, where the envelopes will be opened and the winners  
announced, will take place Saturday, May 12, from 6:30 to 9 pm at DIVA (280 
W.  Broadway)
