Boat Registration Reminders Being Mailed

            The Oregon State Marine Board is mailing approximately 34,000 registration renewal notices on April 15 to boaters whose registration expired on December 31, 2012.
            Registration costs a flat, $3 per foot, rounded to the highest foot and is valid for two calendar years.  A $5 surcharge is added to the registration fee that goes into a dedicated fund for Aquatic Invasive Species Prevention and pays for inspection stations, decontamination equipment, inspectors, and education and outreach materials.
[cid:image002.jpg at 01CE376E.D38EE290]            Boaters can renew online<http://apps.oregon.egov.com/ecommerce/osmb/Renewal.aspx>, by mail, or by visiting the Marine Board office, 435 Commercial Street NE, in Salem.  Registration decals take between 10-14 days to receive in the mail.
This season, the Marine Board is partnering with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to promote summer angling opportunities by including an information card with the renewal notices.
The Marine Board is funded entirely by motorized boat registrations, motorboat fuel tax and receives federal funding to support services to boaters.  Eighty-six cents of every dollar are returned to boaters in the form of law enforcement services, boat ramps, restrooms (floating and landside), parking, boarding floats, and boating safety classes and information.
