The National Summer Learning Association<http://www.summerlearning.org/> has developed nine quality standards for summer programs<http://www.summerlearning.org/?page=quality_standards> for children of all ages. Libraries can use these standards as a tool for identifying what they are doing well and what they need to improve on regarding planning, staffing, funding, and implementing their summer reading program.
To learn more about this relates to your summer reading program, visit the new Youth Services Best Practices for Oregon Libraries web site at: http://orysbestpractices.wordpress.com/
