Research on booktalks and millennial teens was published last month. It's quite good, but also quite long so if you don't have time to read it all and jump right to the recommended booktalking techniques. Scroll about halfway down the page/article to get to the techniques. Below I've copied and pasted the names of the techniques and a brief introduction, the article<http://www.yalsa.ala.org/jrlya/2015/11/book-tweets-and-snappy-reads-booktalking-to-engage-millennial-teens/?utm_source=YALSA+Members_Updated&utm_campaign=d8b8768f48-YALSA_December_2012_E_News3_9_2012&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c641a596eb-d8b8768f48-815240> includes more thorough descriptions and an example of each technique.

Booktalking to Engage Millennial Teens: Introducing the BEMT Techniques

1. Book Tweets are one-to-two-line hooks that leave the audience wanting more.

2. Wrap Back--It is very effective when you begin telling the highlights of a story, and then end the talk by connecting the booktalk back to the title.

3. Open End is similar to Wrap Back except you begin the booktalk with a question (or questions) and end it with a question.

4. Graphic Form is useful for alternative-format books such as graphic novels, epistolary novels, novels in verse, unique formulas, as well as nonfiction books.

5. Snap'n Read is a creative read-aloud technique that appeals to auditory learners.

6. Power-Full Points--book covers visually pique interest and entice readers to notice a book. Thus, presenting a full booktalk repertoire as a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation allows for readers to become acquainted with various texts.
