Please pardon the cross-posting.

Good Morning,
By now, I’m sure you’ve seen lots of communication about celebrating Beverly Cleary’s 100th birthday. You may think that it’s for younger children, and many of the ideas on the 100 Years of Beverly Cleary webpage<http://www.csdola.org/100-years-of-beverly-cleary.html> are geared toward elementary students. However, secondary students can participate, too. Here are just a few thoughts:

· Watch and discuss the 30-minute Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB) documentary, “Discovery Beverly Cleary<http://watch.opb.org/show/oregon-art-beat/>,” in which Ms. Cleary is interviewed; it airs on April 7th but is already available online<http://watch.opb.org/show/oregon-art-beat/> to watch.

· Read one of Cleary’s biographies and then discuss her impact – A Girl from Yamhill and My Own Two Feet.

· Create neighborhood maps since the neighborhood features prominently in Cleary’s books.

· Book talk or read excerpts from one or some of Cleary’s books – or a whole book over several visits – to children in afterschool programs.

· Learn more about the author by exploring the resources in the Biography in Context portal page<http://ic.galegroup.com/ic/bic1/person/actionWin?resetBreadCrumb=&query=&prodId=BIC1&windowstate=normal&contentModules=&display-query=&mode=view&limiter=&showDisambiguation=true&displayGroups=&p=BIC1&action=e&catId=GALE|AAA000069880&scanId=&source=Bookmark&u=osl_trl_2016&password=trial>. The folks at Gale have generously made the page available to all Oregonians for the month of April.
