I was reminded about the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation Mini-Grant program by a post on the Library Grants blog (http://librarygrants.blogspot.com/) maintained by Stephanie Gerding and Pam MacKellar.
Teachers and licensed librarians in public schools and librarians in public libraries are eligible to apply for an award of up to $500 to fund an innovative library program, and applications are due March 31, 2017. I suggest reading the FAQ, watching the 3-minute overview video, and browsing the gallery of great Mini-Grant programs before applying.

I browsed several years back in the list of past winners and only noticed one from Oregon. Aloha Community Library won a grant in 2013. Let’s get Oregon on the list of 2017 awardees! :-)

Subject: Ezra Jack Keats Foundation Mini-Grants
DEADLINE: March 31, 2017
The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation, which fosters children’s love of reading and creative expression in our diverse culture, celebrates the 29th year of its Mini-Grant program with a call for proposals. Approximately 60 grants of $500 each will be awarded to qualifying teachers and librarians at public schools and libraries across the United States. Decisions will be emailed to all applicants by early May.
“For almost 30 years it has been our joy to award Mini-Grants to support teachers and librarians who reach beyond the standard curriculum—creating programs that inspire and encourage students in a creative and cooperative context,” says Deborah Pope, Executive Director of the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation. “It is essential that educators have resources to create these special programs, and this year we’ve revamped our application to make it even easier for them to apply for funding.”
Since 1987, the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation has provided nearly $880,000 in support of Mini-Grant programs spanning the 50 states and the U.S. Commonwealth.
Recent EJK Mini-Grants Help Latino Students Embrace Their Heritage and Share Their Culture in Frankfort, Indiana, and Students in Auburn, Maine, have “Fun with French.” Other creative programs funded in the past have included:
* Ongoing pen-pal projects bringing disparate communities together,
* Multi-cultural portrait projects,
* Art projects culminating in art shows, murals, or quilts,
* Bookmaking and zines,
* Creation and performance of puppet shows or plays,
* Inter-generational journals.
