[OYAN] Oregon Summer Learning Challenge

Hi,

Earlier this week, I learned about ODE’s Oregon Summer Learning Challenge: https://sites.google.com/oregonlearning.org/summerlearningchallenge/home. Oregon joined a national effort to keep students engaged in reading and math over the summer. The challenge part of the math section is clearly explained on the website. It’s not as clear what the challenge is on the reading section, other than encouraging students to read.

Of course, you most likely have your own summer reading program, but you may be interested in promoting the Summer Math Challenge, which is designed for students who just finished grades 1 through 8. This explains the program to parents:

Math Challenge
The Summer Math Challenge is a free, six-week email-based math skills program for children who have just completed grades 1 through 8. Register now to receive daily emails between June 19 and July 28, with fun activities and resources designed to help kids retain the math skills learned during the previous school year. When the program ends, you can print an award certificate to celebrate your child's summer math accomplishment.

One idea is to download and print their poster (8.5 x 11; 11 x 17) and hang some up in your library, especially around the area where folks sign up for your summer reading program. Sorry, but I believe that the poster is only available in English.
