[OYAN] SLJ Teen Virtual Conference (free, Aug. 9) / Future Ready Librarians

I shared about these engagement opportunities on the OASL listserv. Besides information about SLJ Teen Live, there's info about the Future Ready Librarians (FRL) movement. While FRL is for school librarians, public library staff may be interested in learning more about it.

On Wednesday, August 9th, between 7 am and 2 pm Pacific, School Library Journal is hosting SLJTeen Live, "an online conference highlighting the biggest upcoming YA books and important issues impacting your teen materials and programming...Teen service panels will focus on important issues and inspiring ideas from innovative librarians." Topics include girlhood, finding refuge/immigration, reaching reluctant readers, and social justice & equity. The virtual conference is free, and those who register will receive access to the archives.

Starting on Monday, June 19th, lead librarians for the Future Ready Libraries initiative will post a question Monday-Friday in the Future Ready Librarians Facebook Group, and they encourage librarians to be part of the conversation by commenting and sharing ideas. The goal is to delve deeper into the Future Ready Librarians Framework, and the first questions will focus on the topic of empowering students as creators. For those who have not joined their Facebook group yet, I highly recommend giving it a try. The active group posts questions, resources, and more about the Future Ready Librarians framework and school librarianship in general.
