Hello everyone,

I can’t believe it’s October, although the rains in Salem this week certainly made it feel real – If you’ve seen If Winter Comes, Tell It I’m Not Here<https://www.hbook.com/?detailStory=review-of-if-winter-comes-tell-it-im-not-here>, you know how I feel about the coming months…I am trying to appreciate the rain for our thirsty state and am glad it’s turning cooler and wetter for the ground and trees.

Today’s shoutout goes out east, where folks are working creatively with their communities! In Wallowa, the library is working with the Nez Perce tribe for Tamkaliks Celebrations<https://www.lagrandeobserver.com/community/tribe-wallowa-to-hold-celebrations-in-october/article_54944355-50b5-5c28-a761-da070df55301.html>, and in Malheur, many are coming together to get kindergartners excited about school and reading<https://www.malheurenterprise.com/posts/8900/volunteers-keeps-stories-books-coming-for-kindergarteners-across-malheur-county>. Thanks to all of you for continuing to do good work that matters in challenging times, with lots of rain.
