Please pardon the cross-posting.

Hi Folks,

I just learned about two online events that you may be interested in participating in or sharing about.

Infórmate en 2024 / Be Informed in 2024 (2/22 at 4:00 pm Pacific)
The News Literacy Project (NLP) and Factchequeado are hosting a panel of journalists and experts to address misinformation in elections. The Infórmate en 2024/Be Informed in 2024 discussion will be in Spanish with live translation to English. Registration<https://newslitproject.zoom.us/webinar/register/2317071561003/WN_Eihdwcy9SuqL-Jpd5E-OrA#/registration> is free, and the event will be on Thursday, 2/22, at 4:00 pm Pacific. This is one in a series of events NLP is offering related to the election.

"Panelists include Tamoa Calzadilla, editor in chief of Factchequeado; Jesús García, managing editor of politics at La Opinión; Elián Zidán, Univision journalist and anchor of Edición Nocturna; and Cristina Tardáguila, research consultant for the Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas. NLP ambassador Alba Mendiola - a veteran journalist and teacher - will moderate the discussion."

If you haven't explored the News Literacy Project website<https://newslit.org/>, educators may be interested in Checkology<https://get.checkology.org/>, an online learning platform with news literacy lessons for middle and high school students that requires free registration, while those who serve the public may want to share about RumorGuard<https://www.rumorguard.org/>, a website and email alert system that helps fight misinformation. That's just a starter; there are additional resources for each of the target audiences. It was through the Be Informed webinar write-up that I learned about Factchequeado<https://factchequeado.com/>, "an initiative created to counter mis and disinformation within the Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States." The site is in Spanish, and there's an English version of the About Us page<https://factchequeado.com/english/>.

Advocating for Books, Children and Imagination in a Time of Division: A Conversation with Meg Medina (2/27 at 2:00 pm Pacific)
Author Meg Medina<https://megmedina.com/>, who is the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature<https://newsroom.loc.gov/news/meg-medina-named-new-national-ambassador-for-young-people-s-literature/s/544803eb-3aad-4853-8b5b-d5ab957546fa>, will be the featured speaker for this year's MacLeod Lecture<https://ischool.umd.edu/events/macleod-lecture-advocating-for-books-children-and-imagination-in-a-time-of-division-a-conversation-with-meg-medina/> at the University of Maryland. The free lecture has a freedom to read focus, and there's an option to watch online. Those who register<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdiS_6MjtikSlKFdTytAM2V689bSuEvuLaDOat3d4GsNUfb6A/viewform> will receive the session link the morning of the event, which is scheduled for Tuesday, 2/27, at 2:00 pm Pacific.

Cheers,
Jen
