I also want to recap a few great ideas I heard from the iREAD Summer Reading Showcase<https://youtu.be/iZMOtqibLHY?feature=shared>. (The chat from this webinar<https://mcusercontent.com/6e70654dccbd86e15c572ad55/files/e657ba83-9d3d-19d2-9cb4-2588c587f85f/iREAD_2024_Showcase_1.29.24.txt> may also be useful to you.) There's a GREAT run-through of ideas from the Resource Guide - The theme for this year, Read Renew, Repeat, is really all about conservation, in all its forms - So many areas to take this! It may be good to think about what you are already doing in this and where you can build this in - For example, if you read a storytime book about going on a hike, can you highlight a local trail and ask families to take a picture or make up a story when they go to that trail or walk?

A few ideas that stuck with me - (All these programs are from the Resource Guide and could easily be adapted to what suits your library):

  * Storytime Science: Highlight Antoinette Portis' Hey Water! and do something like sink or float, bubble wands, or another station with water instead of a craft afterwards.
  * Conservation is about habitats - what habitats can you highlight for your community?
  * Beekeeping - Invite your local beekeepers to share about their work with bees, great way to help little ones understand bees as friends instead of foe
  * Get Your Bike Ready for Summer! Invite your local bike shop to share about bike maintenance.
  * Recycled Materials Program - Build a town/tower/boat/car with what's in the recycling bin.
  * Community Clean-up day - Partner with city or group doing cleanup!
  * Scavenger Hunt - Put endangered species fact cards around town, in local businesses, etc - send folks on a scavenger hunt outside the library!
  * Gardens/Growing: Take a walk in a garden, invite a master gardener to share about what's planted at the library, do a garden day
  * Tech Services - Life Cycle of a Library Book - utilize your tech services staff! They know all about the physical book and could be a great opportunity to share.

Please let me know if you still need the download code for the Resource Guide or are having trouble accessing what you need for summer reading success. I hope to see some of you tomorrow to talk about Summer Reading!

Best,
Greta
