[Image of title page of Thinking Money for Kids PDF]Hi Folks,

Since there's much to share, I'm consolidating information into a tidbits email. If the formatting came through, you can scan the bold purple text to quickly determine what may be relevant to you.

  * ALA, in collaboration with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation, released Thinking Money for Kids: Cents-ational Reads to Teach Young People About Money<https://programminglibrarian.org/sites/default/files/2025-11/TM4K_Booklist_2025.pdf>, a free resource guide and booklist for libraries. The PDF offers programming ideas, and the 40 titles recommended for those in grades K-8 could be handy as a collection development tool or to support Oregon's K-12 financial literacy standards<https://www.oregon.gov/ode/educator-resources/standards/socialsciences/Documents/Adopted%20Oregon%20K-12%20Social%20Sciences%20Standards%205.18.pdf>. There's also a 2-page guide to share with parents<https://www.ala.org/sites/default/files/2025-12/TM4K_Booklist_2025%20print%20out.pdf>.
  * This is from the December Language Arts Educator Update<https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/ORED/bulletins/3fdcf79>: "Oregon's Instructional Frameworks website<https://oregoninstructionalframeworks.org/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery> has been updated with resources<https://oregoninstructionalframeworks.org/adolescent-literacy/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery> to support the implementation of Oregon's Adolescent Literacy Framework<https://oregoninstructionalframeworks.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Oregons-Adolescent-Literacy-Framework.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery>. There are resources for classroom educators across the disciplines, coaches, and administrators. There are also resources<https://oregoninstructionalframeworks.org/early-literacy/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery> to support the implementation of Oregon's Early Literacy Framework.<https://www.oregon.gov/ode/educator-resources/standards/ELA/Documents/Literacy%20Framework_2023.pdf?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery> And you can find even more resources on ODE's Early Literacy Framework webpage<https://www.oregon.gov/ode/educator-resources/standards/ELA/Pages/Early-Literacy.aspx?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery>."
  * And, the December newsletter from the Office of Indian Education at ODE<https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/ORED/bulletins/3fd17c5> has information about new Tribal History/Shared History resources for educators and students, including updated professional development learning modules<https://ode.instructure.com/courses/557>, plus a community of practice that meets online monthly.
  * The Oregon Library Association Intellectual Freedom Committee is recruiting additional members. For details, please see the email below my signature block. Applications are due Monday, 12/8.
  * The State Library has been offering affinity and DEI meetups for nearly a year now, and the organizer would appreciate receiving feedback by 12/31, including if you've wanted to participate but the schedule doesn't work for you. See the email below for additional information and a link to the survey.
Best,
Jen

Subject: [Libs-Or] Join the OLA's Intellectual Freedom Committee!

Hello, valiant intellectual freedom fighters!

The Oregon Library Association Intellectual Freedom Committee<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http%3a%2f%2fwww.olaweb.org%2fif-home&c=E,1,XTewfRfJn3vyJMfU7MPw7y57nFC5oNEU8ISZt-G34q7Wi4Pdi6eBi15pa3ckd7KEmSFtDRDNbAzNhze44wLYqzrs-EwI3FF0Tr_LOAuQyRijEkKpVmFtTMo,&typo=1> is expanding and currently seeking new members for multiple open positions. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about intellectual freedom and eager to support and advocate for the intellectual freedom needs of Oregon libraries, especially in a time of unprecedented challenges.

To apply, please send a Letter of Interest (no longer than 1 page) to Alyssa Donoho and Shelby Paulson, the current co-chairs of the committee, at ifc.chair at olaweb.org<mailto:ifc.chair at olaweb.org>. Please include information about the following: areas of intellectual freedom experience and/or that you are passionate about, your availability to participate in committee work, and the work and life experience which you would bring to the committee. We especially encourage people from historically underrepresented groups, non-represented regions (see current member map<https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/1/edit?mid=1dY8aRgJeIaB90kC1YUmr5mamoSXXd9U&usp=sharing>), and all library types (public, academic, school, tribal) to apply. Applications are due by the end of day Monday, December 8th.

The Intellectual Freedom Committee is now a 13-member standing OLA committee with the charge of supporting the library community's commitment to the freedom to read, open access to information, and other intellectual freedom issues throughout the state. These are some of the ongoing projects of the committee:

  * Supporting libraries that receive intellectual freedom challenges, including to materials, and face other IF issues
  *   Supporting Banned Books Week
  * Sponsoring sessions at the OLA and/or division conference on IF issues
  * Providing information on IF issues through listserv communication, social media, web toolkits, and other resources
  *   Honoring Intellectual Freedom Champions
  * Working with the OLA Legislative Committee and Board on topical issues that arise, such as net neutrality

Please note, given the current environment of extensive intellectual freedom challenges, committee participation can be significant. The estimated monthly time commitment is a minimum of five hours, which includes participating in the monthly meeting and about three hours of project work and correspondence. Expectations of committee members' engagement include the following:

  * Attending monthly virtual IFC meetings
  * Volunteering to complete committee action items
  * Responding actively to requests for challenge support
  * Responding in a timely manner to committee emails and correspondence
  * Providing IF training upon request

Members are asked to serve at least two years. The IFC meets remotely on the second Friday of each month, either via Zoom or conference call. Applicants must be available to attend Friday 1:00-3:00 PM (Pacific time) meetings. Please let us know if you are interested in joining the committee but have a scheduling conflict.

If you have any questions about the committee, please feel free to contact us!

Subject: [Libs-Or] Feedback Needed on Affinity Meetup Groups

Hello, all!
We are approaching the one-year anniversary of the launch of the first virtual affinity & DEI general meetup groups. It has been wonderful to see the ways these spaces have adapted to meet the needs of, and bridge gaps between, attendees joining from all across the state.

While many things have gone well, I also recognize that current structures might not be ideal for everyone. I would love to gather some feedback from those who have been able to attend, and those who have never attended, about what is working, what could be improved upon, and/or what barriers to attendance/participation exist.

Please consider filling out this short survey<https://forms.gle/ppXYfKsL1Ykd2jJy9>, which will capture feedback/suggestions/needs for both the DEI general meetup and affinity groups. The names, descriptions and times of these groups can be found at the top of the survey<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe-PsiFSLZ286r6UAtusMRO0DNMp6bY1BGJslelV9kVK355Jw/viewform?usp=dialog>, or listed here<https://slo.oregon.gov/CommunityEngagement/DEI_Resources>. As a reminder, affinity group participants must have a shared identity with the group to attend, but the DEI general meetup is open to all.

I will monitor responses to this survey through Wednesday, December 31st. There will be no virtual DEI or affinity group meetups in January as I work to reflect on and be responsive to feedback provided. Any and all changes to the meetup groups, if they occur, will be shared out prior to February 2026.

If you do not feel comfortable sharing feedback directly with me, the chairs of the Oregon Library Association's EDI & Antiracism Committee<https://www.olaweb.org/ola-edi-antiracism-committee---HOME> are receptive to passing along any feedback while maintaining confidentiality. Their email is: edicommittee at olaweb.org<mailto:edicommittee at olaweb.org>.

Thank you all for your time and consideration, and for your efforts to create safe spaces for all Oregon library workers and volunteers!
