Dear Directors,
We need your help. The 2009-2010 Public Library Funding & Technology Access survey (available for completion at www.plinternetsurvey.org<http://www.plinternetsurvey.org/>) conducted by the American Library Association (ALA - www.ala.org/plinternetfunding<http://www.ala.org/plinternetfunding>) and the Center for Library & Information Innovation at the University of Maryland (clii.umd.edu<http://clii.umd.edu>) closes November 7, 2010. Right now, Oregon's participation is 28%: We need to have 60% to be in the published results.
Funded by the American Library Association and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the survey provides important data regarding public library Internet connectivity, use, funding, and services. Since 1994, these surveys have been used by the American Library Association and others to inform and educate policymakers, funders, elected officials, supporters, and the media at the local, state and national levels about the issues and needs<http://www.plinternetsurvey.org/?q=node/17> your library faces in providing public computer and Internet access services and resources. A select list of articles using this survey can be found at http://www.plinternetsurvey.org/?q=node/15.
Your participation in the survey is extremely important, and directly impacts the ability of ALA and others to advocate on behalf of public libraries and the tremendous contribution public libraries make to their communities through their public access Internet services and resources. We have created a range of tools you can use to advocate on the behalf of your library regarding how public libraries help job seekers, with e-government, broadband, and community access. You can find these at www.plinternetsurvey.org<http://www.plinternetsurvey.org> as well as www.ala.org/plinternetfunding<http://www.ala.org/plinternetfunding>.
The survey is open through November 7, 2010. To participate, go to http://www.plinternetsurvey.org<http://www.plinternetsurvey.org/>. You will need an ID number, which you may look up on the website. Questions regarding the survey should be directed to support at clii.umd.edu<mailto:support at clii.umd.edu> or 301.405.9445.
