Dear Directors,

I also thank Kate for getting out there. I also want to remind you the OLA has helpful tips for inviting legislators into your library and communicating to the press about your programs. These are on the OLA web site at http://www.olaweb.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=80672&orgId=ola

Everything we all do now helps maintain support for the important services all of you provide to Oregon's children and families.

Thanks,
Janet Webster

Dear Directors:
I wanted you all to see the attached article from the Grants Pass Daily Courier. It shows that Kate Lasky, the executive director of Josephine Community Libraries, who most of you met at our September meeting, has done what we asked all of you to do in September -- reach out to your legislators about continued funding for the Ready to Read Grant program.

This article speaks volumes about how easy it is. You just have to do it. It's not too late. The Legislature won't begin their regular session until February 1st.

Do like Kate did and invite a legislator to a library storytime between now and then (ask Nan Heim <nanheim at nanheim.com> to help get an invitation if you need her help). And when they are in your library tell them about the importance of your reading programs for children and how state funding is needed to support your efforts, as it has in the past. For bonus points, invite a reporter like Kate did to cover the event.

I hope Kate can be an inspiration to many of you. Way to go Kate!
