Dear Colleagues:
As many of you know the Federal Affordable Care Act<http://www.hhs.gov/healthcare/rights/index.html> will begin enrollment in October of 2013 for coverage starting in January 2014. In Oregon this expanded access to health coverage comes through a new online marketplace where Oregonians will be able to compare and enroll in health and dental coverage that fits their needs and budget, and to access financial help to pay for their coverage.
Cover Oregon<http://coveroregon.com/> is a public corporation created by the people of Oregon, for the people of Oregon. We are one of the first states to build our own health coverage marketplace, and we are doing it our way, rather than having the Federal government do it for us.
Cover Oregon has put together a rather extensive promotional and informational campaign with the Metro Group. I spoke with staff from the Metro Group last week about the materials and information they will be able to provide to libraries and I wanted to share a couple of things with you from the Metro Group:
How Libraries Can Help
There are many ways that you can help spread the word about Cover Oregon:
* Include content in your newsletter, website and other communications
* Use your social media channels to keep the buzz going and to drive your followers to coveroregon.com
* Put a link on your website
* Invite a representative from Cover Oregon to speak at your next major gathering
* Participate in other opportunities based on the unique channels that are most effective for reaching members of your community
These promotions would ideally start right away, increase in October when enrollment begins, and continue through at least year's end.
What Cover Oregon Can Offer
To support you as a partner, Cover Oregon will provide:
* Talking points, background information, and tips for outreach
* Brochure, fact sheets and posters that can be customized with your organization's name, and which will be available in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese along with a customized version for tribal members
* Text for social media posts
* Draft newsletter articles and advertisements
* Web buttons and content
* Speakers for your statewide gatherings
* Cover Oregon webinar to provide you with background information designed for partners
* Trainings to teach your staff how to use Cover Oregon and to assist others in enrolling
* In the future, we aim to provide access to experts who can participate in web chats or meetings with your constituents
* Others TBD, depending on your needs and opportunities.
So, my question to you is: would any of you be interested in convening a small group to work with the Cover Oregon to develop a strategy for getting this information out?
I would be happy to convene a group here at the State Library in the next couple of weeks. Or, if you have other suggestions about how the state library can facilitate the distribution of the information please let me know.
Thanks,
MaryKay
