Dear Oregon Public Library Directors,

In accordance with ORS 357.520, the State Library is once again requesting your cooperation in reporting library statistics for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Oregon law requires that every public library report annually to the State Library. The Statistical Report is due October 1, 2014.

We will be using Bibliostat Collect again for the Oregon Public Library Statistical Report. We have mailed your user name and password. Unless you request it, we will not change your logon information.

The Frequently Asked Questions site, a sample template, and instructions are available through the "Reporting Public Library Statistics" page via: http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/Pages/statsmain.aspx.

If you would like a telephone walk-though, have questions about survey items, or are interested in a workshop or individual training session, please call or email Ann Reed at (503) 378-5027 or ann.reed at state.or.us. If there are problems with the functioning of the software, call Bibliostat directly at 1-866-785-9935.

If your library is unable to meet the October 1 deadline, a deadline extension must be requested from Library Development Services. The extension request should be submitted to Library Development on or before September 23, 2013. If the extension is granted, we will give you a new deadline to complete the statistical report. The extension request may be submitted to Library Development Services via email to Ferol Weyand at ferol.weyand at state.or.us<mailto:ferol.weyand at state.or.us>.
New this year is an annual count of wireless sessions. This could be achieved by getting a sample and multiplying out. We have enclosed a handout in a recent mailing indicating some possible counting methods.

We have also enclosed a handout in the mailing with some guidance of how to deal with some popular electronic products.

Also new this year is a revised definition for reference. The national Library Statistics Working Group hopes the definition will be clearer. Placing holds, helping with ILL or doing other circulation transactions is not part of a reference count. Individual help with computers and reader's advisory are part of the reference count.

Ann Reed will be happy to offer any assistance possible and looks forward to hearing from you. As always, call early, call often for help. Thank you for your cooperation in reporting your annual statistics to the State Library.
