The American Library Association is offering a four-week asynchronous online course about early literacy and creating early literacy programs for young children and their families (described in the email below). I haven’t taken the course so can’t personally vouch for it, but the description sounds like it is going to be good—two weeks on child development and early literacy and two weeks on program planning and promotion. The course is $175 and you may use Ready to Read funds to pay for it—just let me know if you need to change your grant. Learn more about the course at the ALA Store<http://www.alastore.ala.org/detail.aspx?ID=11771&zbrandid=-1&zidType=CH&zid=44552450&zsubscriberId=0&zbdom=http://ala-publishing.informz.net>. 4-week eCourse
Beginning Monday, June 5, 2017
If you perform and develop programming for preschool children and families, knowing the basics of early literacy training will help you create a school readiness program that will best prepare children for a successful transition into kindergarten. Early care expert and education trainer R. Lynn Baker's successful approach to school readiness programming connects school readiness indicators and early childhood standards with early literacy best practices. In this four-week eCourse, Baker will guide you through the ins and outs of developing early childhood programs through discussion boards, pre/post-tests, assignments, and readings. You’ll walk away with tools for connecting developmentally appropriate principles of early childhood development with the early literacy skills/best practices of Every Child Ready to Read® (ECRR) 1 and 2.
