We hope you are all planning on joining us this Thursday for our State of Oregon Research Academy Summer Networking Mixer!

We will have door prizes!

AND... We will have presentations!  Nick Beleiciks and Will Burchard from the Oregon Employment Department will discuss the recent overhaul of Oregon's minimum wage.  Then Erin McDaniel from Department of Justice will talk about cross-agency collaboration and data sharing.  More information about the presentations below.

Oregon's New Minimum Wage
Nick Beleiciks and Will Burchard, Oregon Employment Department
Oregon's minimum wage structure recently saw a major overhaul. By 2022, the Portland area's minimum wage will increase to $14.75, while rural counties will see an increase to $12.50. The Oregon Employment Department is home to the wage records needed to analyze minimum wage job counts and trends. We will provide a brief overview on minimum wage, talk about how we analyze the wage records, and then open the floor for discussion.

Collaboration and Data Sharing

We all know that privacy and security regulations prevent us from sharing many key data sets but that isn't the only way we can share data. Using the minimum wage data as a launching pad, Erin will lead a group discussion about cross agency collaboration on research and data sharing. What types of uses would/could your Agency have for publicly available reports? What could you achieve with other agency reports or anatomized data?

The State of Oregon Research Academy is pleased to announce our 2nd annual Summer Networking Mixer!  Save the date for July 21st and join us in the Speakeasy at Archive Coffee & Bar for the opportunity to get to know other data geeks such as yourself.



Break from the agency silos!
Meet your fellow analysts!
Free the data!



We're also looking for one or two people who would be willing to present at our networking mixer.  The setting is more informal than our usual events, so here's what we had in mind:

*         Something brief. (20 mins. or less)

*         Something casual.  The room will be set-up more like a coffee house, less like a classroom, and there will not be a computer or projector set-up.

*         Something interactive.  A typical presentation is great.  A moderated group discussion or a panel is even better.
