SOCIAL MEDIA - Managing the New Admin Options of Your Organization’s Facebook Page
Advanced
[Facebook new lood]
Do you manage your organization's Facebook Page? Maybe you have noticed that it has prompted you to "make the switch" to the new Facebook Page Experience? Or if not yet, you'll see this option coming very soon.
TIP: If you don't manage a page, but are a regular Facebook user, read on as some of the changes will affect how you interact with Pages.
We know that Facebook occasionally makes tweaks and changes to the platform.
However, the objective of this modification (changing from what they call the "Classic" Page to "The New Facebook Page Experience") is more severe. It streamlines and simplifies the ADMIN side of a business page to make it more accessible. They have also added new ways to help a Page connect with its community.
In this article we will review the critical areas that have been modified so that you, as an admin on your Facebook Page, can use this social media platform to connect with your followers including:
· Upgrading to the New Facebook Page Experience
· Jumping between your Personal Profile and Pages (the "business" side of Facebook)
· New Page Sections (formerly called Tabs)
· Changes to Facebook Page "Likes," "Follows," and following other Pages and Groups
· How the dedicated News Feed can help you to discover peers and fans … join their conversations and interact with them
· Changes in Admin controls for those that access your Page
Upgrading to the New Facebook Page Experience
[new page experience]
NOTE: The new Pages experience is not available for everyone at once because they are doing a slow roll-out (beginning early 2021). At the time of the release of this article, not everyone has access yet (April 2022) ... but it will come!
You can't request it or go somewhere in your account to turn it on. If you manage more than one page, some Pages may still be using the Classic view and some others will have the New Experience.
If you are eligible to make the switch you would have already gotten a notification to prompt you to switch. Or, if you are eligible, you may see it in your account, but have not activated it yet.
IMPORTANT: Facebook claims when a business switches to its new Pages Experience, all existing content will transfer to the new format. This includes photos, videos, stories and any groups your page may be involved in.
However, business features including Offers, Jobs and Appointments that were in the Classic page are not carried over. You need to re-post them if you want them to continue. More features such as Reviews, Check-ins and Templates are also not carried into the New Pages Experience. Again, you'll have to re-post.
Jumping Between Your Personal Profile and Pages
After you have made the switch to the New Pages Experience, Facebook has changed the way that you get to the Admin side of pages that you manage. You can get to it in a few ways:
To Switch: go to Facebook.com and log into your (personal) account.
1. Click on your profile picture. Depending on your version, it may be in the top-right or in the lower-left corner. Select Switch Profile. Then select the new Page you want to open.
[switch accounts]
2. Or, from your personal account, click on the Pages icon (orange flag) and select the Page you want to access and click the Switch Now blue button.
To Switch back to your personal profile on desktop: Click the Page's profile icon and select your profile name.
Using a Mobile Device
[mobile device]
Open your new Page on mobile: From the Facebook app, tap on your profile picture in the bottom right. In the Menu tap on the Page you want to manage.
To switch back to your personal profile on mobile: From the Facebook app, tap on your profile picture in the bottom right. In the Menu select your personal profile.
Why was a new way to switch accounts created? Facebook thinks that this makes it less likely that you will accidentally "Follow" or "Post" using the wrong identity.
New Page Sections (formerly called Tabs)
At the top of each Facebook Page is a navigation bar so that people can get to the different parts of the account – About, Services, Photos, etc. When you click on the More link, you see even more links. These were formerly called Tabs but are now re-names Sections. With the Facebook Experience layout, new ones have been added.
[new sections]
Be sure to review these new Sections because they may not be relevant to your organization – such as music, TV shows or Sports. Currently, you cannot change the order of sections, but you can hide some from displaying on your page.
[sections]
To remove or add sections, on your page:
· Click More on the bar that lists the sections (or tabs) and select the last option in the list which is Manage Sections.
· Uncheck the boxes that you don't want to appear or check the boxes you would like on your profile.
· Be sure to edit each new section with content if you're going to keep it.
Sections that CANNOT be Hidden:
· About
· Mentions
· Followers
· Photos
· Videos
· Live
· Groups
· Events
· Jobs
Sections that CAN be Hidden:
· Music
· Questions
· Archive
· Check-Ins
· Sports
· Movies
· TV Shows
Facebook PAGE "Likes" are Going Away
[Like a page]
A huge update to the new Facebook Page Experience layout is that Likes on Facebook PAGES have disappeared!
NOTE: We're not talking about "Liking" a post," but a PAGE "Like."
Why? In the Classic Facebook page, you have both. People can Like and/or Follow your PAGE.
Here's the problem. As a personal Facebook user, you go to a page and maybe you "Like" it. But just Liking the Page doesn't automatically add their content to your feed. You may not know that to continually see this info you need to "Follow" the page. So, in the past, having both has been confusing for users.
In the new Facebook Page Experience, Facebook has chosen to streamline this and focus on only Followers – because they believe Followers have a stronger desire to engage and view the content.
So, when you switch over to the new Facebook Page Experience...
· If someone Likes your Page and is also a Follower, they will still Follow your new Page.
· If someone only Likes your Page but does not also follow it, these Likes will not transition to your new Page. Oh no!
[Follow button]
What can you do? You may lose people that have Liked your Page, but are not Followers. You can take action! BEFORE you make the switch (do it now because you don't know when it will happen), let your audience know that you are updating your account and ask them to be sure and "Follow" you if they have not already.

Communications: Writing
A sure-fire way to proof your text
Whether you're writing an important email or turning in a quarterly report, making sure everything is correct requires a careful review of your writing.
Some folks have an eye for catching every little mistake ... an extra letter, a misspelled word, a grammatical blunder. Most of us, however, need a little help because it is so easy to "read over" what we've written and believe that it is just fine ... while, all along, these flaws remain for others to catch.
There's a trick that works every time: Read your text from back to front!
Here's how you do it!
· Start with the very last sentence.
· Read it.
· You'll be hearing it out of context.
· Then go to the second to last sentence ... and so on.
This way each sentence has to stand on its own. You'll catch any omissions or errors easily so that you can fix them before sending the important document out for others to view.

Leadership
Wearing your Facilitator Hat
Whether you're in a meeting or an informal group setting, playing the role of a facilitator can be quite handy if you're trying to make a decision or solve a problem.
Why in the world would you need someone to act in this position?
A facilitator focuses the energy of the group on what you want to achieve and dispassionately uses objective processes (often referred to as "Quality" methods) to guide the group to a common agreement ... without being directive.
Do you ever wear a facilitator hat?
Anyone can! And should! It's not the exclusive domain of the manager, supervisor or coordinator. The facilitator role is a shared responsibility.
Watch for more articles in which we'll show you some ways to be an effective facilitator so that you can more successfully achieve group goals, solve problems and avoid workplace disruption.
For now, watch your behavior and words. Find out how often you slip into a facilitator role. How does it feel? Does it help your workplace environment? Might you want to look for more opportunities to put on your facilitator hat?
