WEBTOOL - Turn PDF's into Highly Engaging Flipbooks

Here's a fact I recently discovered: PDFs (as a leading-edge technology) have been around for over 30 years. That's a long time in this rapidly developing tech world! It's no surprise then, that we now have something that makes PDFs even jazzier.

It's called flipbooks! You can turn your important PDFs (promotional docs, new employee orientation packets) into engaging, interactive tools. This will get your "readers" more involved and interested in your material. That's the point, right?

What Is a Flipbook?

A flipbook is a digital document created by converting an existing PDF into an HTML document (a web page). It looks exactly like the PDF, but it has several enhancements:

·    You can easily add interactive elements such as email links, URLs to web pages, animations, YouTube videos, and other web-specific features.

·    You can insert a form to gather information from the reader.

·    Instead of scrolling down through the PDF, you click to watch the pages turn, just as you would a book. (Yes, you can also add page-turning sounds and other cool stuff to entice people to keep reading.)

When to Use a Flipbook

You can do almost anything with a Flipbook by converting a simple (or complex) PDF. You could be a business owner who wants a marketing brochure or an academic librarian in charge of the new student orientation booklet. Or perhaps you're a creative individual who wants to create a clever invitation or thank-you note. In any case, Flipbooks can be a smart choice.

Using this technology is especially great when you have a lot of related documents, videos, or web pages that you want to refer to in your PDF.

Creating a URL to a related resource, within the Flipbook, makes the material handy to the reader. When all your resources are integrated into one place, you have a more effective document. Anything that can be placed on a web page can be inserted into the PDF. For instance, you may want to include a brief video or an audio file. Just pop them in!

Steps to Create a Flipbook

There are six steps to create an online document as a Flipbook … once you have a PDF ready.

1.  Upload the PDF of your report – the web tool will convert it into a series of web pages.
2.  Customize your online report’s backgrounds, colors, logo, etc.
3.  Insert links, pictures, and videos to your liking.
4.  Share and embed the online report on your website, social media, or email.
5.  Choose if your online report should be private or public.
6.  View the online report’s viewing statistics.

Add Interactivity and Actions to Communicate

There are so many things a writer needs to consider when crafting a document ... if you want the reader to get the most out of the information you're presenting.

Not only do you concern yourself with the words and images, you want to craft the best layout and design elements as well. Now, with lots of animated technology options and open access to web page elements, adding interactivity gives you another level of sophistication and effectiveness that you can use to your benefit.

What to Do

No matter what document you're creating, go back and look for ways to add actions. You may want the reader to click on a link to view the details of a chart. You can insert a 30-second Loom video to show how something works. You can trigger an audio at a certain point so they can hear your voice and how excited you are about an upcoming event.

You have so many options. Once you review your document and look for ways to add interactivity and actions, I bet you'll find a bunch ... delighting and impressing your readers!
