The grant opportunity that I posted about earlier (see below) has been rereleased, and the new deadline for RFPs is May 19th. This is today's announcement from the Oregon Department of Education:
ODE is excited to announce the rerelease of the American Indian / Alaskan Native Culturally Relevant Teaching, Learning, and Pedagogy Grant<http://www.ode.state.or.us/opportunities/grants/nclb/title_vii/aina-crtlp-final-april-1-2014.rtf> to support the collaborative efforts to design, implement, improve, expand, or otherwise infuse American Indian / Alaskan Native culturally responsive pedagogy and practices to increase student academic achievement, high school completion, and successful engagement in post-secondary educational opportunities.
At the end of January, 2014, ODE announced the American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) Closing the Achievement Gap RFP under the Strategic Initiatives. After receiving feedback and questions from stakeholders in the field, ODE withdrew the initial RFP and a consultant was hired to convene a group of stakeholders to gather additional input. Valuable stakeholder recommendations were considered during the revision of the RFP.
Primary revisions in the eligibility and criteria requirements for the RFP include:
* Removing the minimum qualification for a minimum American Indian / Alaskan Native students count;
* Strengthening the partnership / collaboration language to encourage applicants to consider multiple collaborative partnerships;
* Offering eligibility to non-profit organizations with a focus on Indian education working in collaboration with a school district; and
* Increased allotment for initiative from $500,000 to $850,000
The Department may award grants up to $100,000 to successful applicants. To access the RFP for the American Indian Alaskan Native Culturally Relevant Teaching, Learning, and Pedagogy Grant, click here<http://www.ode.state.or.us/opportunities/grants/nclb/title_vii/aina-crtlp-final-april-1-2014.rtf>. The RFPs are due to ODE on May 19, 2014 by 12:00 pm.
A technical assistance webinar about the grant will be held on April 7, 2014 at 10:00am. The webinar will include a complete review of the eligibility and criteria requirements and allow participants time for questions. Oregon Early Literacy Grant
The Oregon Early Literacy Grant<http://earlylearningcouncil.files.wordpress.com/2014/01/kindergarten_partnershipinnovation_rfa_2014.pdf> is part of House Bill 3232, Strategic Initiatives for Student Success. Oregon's Early Learning Council (ELC) is seeking applications for Early Literacy Grant funds for the purpose of strengthening early literacy among children ages 0-6. The goals of this grant program are to improve children's kindergarten readiness and, ultimately, third grade reading proficiency. The ELC is looking for early literacy partnerships that will build the capacity of adults to engage in high quality reading experiences with children, expand reading opportunities for children, increase the frequency with which children are read to in the home, and expand access to books, libraries, and/or materials and curriculum that promote early literacy. The ELC anticipates awarding approximately twenty-five grants to support early literacy through the Oregon Early Reading Program.
Early Learning Hubs, providers of early childhood services, nonprofit organizations, libraries, school districts and public schools or a collaboration thereof are eligible to submit proposals. Early Learning Hubs may apply for up to $100,000. All other applicants may apply for up to $50,000.
