Greetings!

Tribal libraries are eligible for E-rate discounts to enhance access to advanced telecommunications and information services. Attached you will find the slides (PDF) from a presentation at last month's Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums on E-rate for tribal libraries. This presentation provides an excellent overview of the E-rate program, what it offers, how it works, the program goals and a summary of the recent changes to the program due to the "E-rate Modernization" order.

Additionally USAC (Universal Service Administrative Company), the not-for-profit company the administers the program, has begun providing a number of online resources for tribal library applicants as well hosting monthly calls (for questions and updates) and in-person trainings. Most importantly, USAC now has a designated Tribal Liaison (Mackenzie Howard) that is responsible for assisting tribal schools and libraries throughout the process, helping to conduct and coordinate tribal-specific trainings and materials, and fielding your questions about the program.

Coming up in Portland, OR on November 17 will be an in-person training covering an overview of the application process, tips for success, a demonstration of the new online application system, and information about specialized resources. There will also be an opportunity to hear other Tribal applicants talk about their experiences in the program as well as speak one-on-one with the E-rate Program Tribal Liaison. Registration is free and can be handled by contacting Mackenzie Howard at mhoward at usac.org<mailto:mhoward at usac.org>.

Please note: There is a general applicant training scheduled the day before. Tribal applicants are welcome to register separately for this general training session. Please visit http://www.usac.org/sl/about/outreach/training/2015/fall/portland.aspx for more information and to register for free for the November 16 general application training in Portland, OR. (NOTE: space is limited for this training so please register as soon as possible).

Additional information from USAC that you may find helpful can be found at: http://www.usac.org/sl/about/outreach/tribal.aspx

If you have any questions or concerns about this information, please don't hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to assist in every way possible.

Cheers!
Darci
