We’re thrilled to share this information with you about an upcoming PBS livestreaming event that we believe will be of significant interest.



“Visions of America: All Stories, All People, All Places” is a multi-platform national initiative which is a partnership between PBS Books and the national Institute of Museum and Library Sciences. Launched in 2023, the initiative includes a livestream and free on-demand documentary video series, featuring landmarks of significance in the diverse tapestry of American history, and the communities deeply rooted in those places and stories. Each episode explores stories and histories that have contributed to America as we know it today.



The next upcoming episode, premiering January 24 at 8pm ET, is titled “Visions of America, All Stories, All People, All Places: Voices from the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Stories of First Americans.” Beginning with a visit to the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona, which serves as a departure point for this half-hour digital documentary spanning topics including tribal sovereignty and the vital role and contributions of Native Americans.



Here is an episode description:

The Heard Museum in Phoenix highlights Indigenous creativity from traditional artworks to contemporary creations. This episode celebrates Native American histories, cultures, and present-day policies, with a focus on amplifying under-heard stories. It explores Indigenous stories of arts, culture, sports, and Native American citizenship and tribal sovereignty.

IMLS Director Crosby Kemper tours the Heard Museum with its Director/CEO David Roche to discuss the museum’s role as a central asset in telling and preserving American Indian histories and cultures.

Next, Crosby speaks with Walter Echo-Hawk (Pawnee), a Native American attorney, tribal judge, author, activist, and law professor, and with Philip J. Deloria (Dakota), history professor at Harvard University, on topics of Indigenous knowledge and traditions and tribal engagement.

Both Echo-Hawk and Deloria are authors whose work highlights lesser-known stories about Native Americans.
