[Answerland-summit] Need your feedback re: registration price

Hmm, not sure I agree about a discount not making sense. In previous
Virtual Reference Summits, Answerland would offer FREE registration to one
person from each Answerland-partner library (or something like that). Some
may balk at paying for registration at all this time around, based on past
practices...

I also sort of hope that the fact that this year's summit *isn't* limited
to virtual reference will actually attract non-Answerlanders/those who
perform non-virtual reference service. So I wouldn't necessarily come to
the conclusion that everyone attending will be an Answerland
volunteer...which is a good thing, because they *won't* be as likely to
expect a free registration!

However, if we do believe attendees will mostly be Answerlanders, then I
suspect making everyone pay (whether full or discounted price) won't go
unnoticed -- but I doubt there'd be much objection. $40 or $50 isn't
cost-prohibitive for most, I don't think, so I anticipate people will pay
whatever we ask. Just think it's important to recognize that those of us
who attended in previous years didn't have to pay anything except
transportation. Yes, it was a pretty sweet deal!

All that said, I think it would be good to offer a discount to Answerland
volunteers and RT members, because I think that'll inspire a greater
turnout. If I did the math correctly, $40 represents a 20% discount off the
full $50 fee. What if we set the discount at 25% off ($37.50)? I dunno, at
first glance, $40 didn't seem like it was a huge difference from $50; does
having the price start with '3' makes it more enticing to others, or is
that just me? We'd still be making money but the discount would be
perceived as a bit more generous and therefore draw more attendees.

It's late, I hope I articulated my thoughts well enough!

My 2 cents,
Sue
