Hello All,
I wanted to make sure you knew about this upcoming training opportunity:
Oregon Reference Summit Presents 2025
The Oregon Reference Summit invites you to join us January 21 from 12-1pm for an informative and useful presentation by our colleagues at Tacoma Public Library.
Reference By All
No matter what your role is in the library, everyone can participate in reference. To provide good customer care, each staff person must be prepared and comfortable with helping patrons meet their needs. This presentation is designed to equip staff with the tools they need to support a reference interaction at the desk. Participants can expect to learn and share about databases, websites, and lived experience. Participants will also learn about and debunk the common myths around reference support in the library.
This training will make space for everyone to both share about their experiences working with patrons and to ask any questions about how to engage in the reference interview. We will workshop with each other and play games to talk about strategies and tips for making the reference interaction a positive one for everyone involved. People of all experiences are welcome to attend this training to learn from and share with each other.
Presenters bios
Hi I'm Perlita Payne, I'm a Librarian II at Tacoma Public Library (TPL). Prior to working at TPL, I worked at Berkeley Public Library and Alameda County Library in California. I love cat videos and taking pictures of my food, plants, and trees nearby. I also enjoy walking around Tacoma and trying to catch a look at the Mountain.
Hi! My name is Jamie Gilmore, and I am Librarian II for the Maker Lab in the Main Branch of Tacoma Public Library. In my spare time I love to read, play video games, crochet amigurumi projects (which I always give away), and occasionally go ice skating and roller blading.
