Good afternoon State Library Answerland Volunteers!
I wanted to take the time to e-introduce myself to you all and thank you for your continued service and dedication to the State Library of Oregon during this challenging time. Your virtual reference services are a necessary lifeline to many looking to use library resources unfortunately limited by Covid-19. I appreciate your service, and I know many others do as well.
My name is Cam, and as of Monday March, 23, I'm the new Volunteer Coordinator at the State Library. To be sure, this has been an odd time to start a new position, learning the ropes via telecommuting & video conferencing but nevertheless it is still very exciting for me to join the team. Knowing that eventually, we will get back to "normal" I want to let each of you know I am beyond thrilled to meet you virtually, hear feedback from you about our programs, and work with you to improve, innovate, and explore the future of volunteering virtually at the State Library. I thank you for your continued service to us, and dedication to the Oregonians far and wide who rely on the services you provide.
For a sense of who I am as a person, here's a short snippet of my background for anyone interested:
* Where I have worked before SLO: Tulane University, Audubon Nature Institute, National Park Service, Oregon Department of Forestry
* What did I do before SLO: resource interpretation, informal education, museum curation, volunteer coordination, natural resources management, biological sciences & monitoring, recreation site management, member & customer service, forestry
* Hobbies: acrylic painting, sketching, hiking, camping, kayaking, gardening, traveling (and many more!)
* Some favorite books: The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, Factfulness by Hans Rosling, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, Salems' Lot by Stephen King
While this is a mere snapshot into pieces of who I am, I hope that all of us have a chance to get better acquainted in the time to come. For all of you, my metaphorical door is always open. If you have ideas, thoughts, or concerns I am happy to hear them and serve as a resource.
Once again, thanks for your service to the State Library and to the people of Oregon. Stay healthy, stay safe, and enjoy your new found time with those you care for.
Cheers,
Courtney "Cam" Amabile
Volunteer & Operations Coordinator
