[Answerlandvolunteers] State of Oregon Holiday Reminder--Monday, June 20th--Juneteenth and Online Event Invite

Good Afternoon,

I wanted to remind you that we have a State of Oregon observance of a holiday coming up. Although the holiday itself falls on Sunday, June 19th. The State of Oregon will be observing the holiday on the following Monday, June 20th. If you have a regular Answerland shift, please know that you are not obligated to staff your shift that day. This will be the case on July 4th which is a Monday as well. If you wish to make up your hours for the week, please let me know and I'll work with you to find an alternative shift that needs staffing.

Additionally, I want to extend an invitation you to an event happening this Thursday commemorating Juneteenth. This looked to me like good way to honor the day. I've checked with the Department of Administrative Services - Office of Cultural Change about volunteer attendance. They are pleased to receive your advanced registration to this online event. The Oregon Judicial Department, in partnership with the Office of Cultural [A picture containing logo  Description automatically generated] Change, invites you to join "Poetic Perspectives on Juneteenth." Juneteenth marks the day (over two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation) those enslaved in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom. Join us virtually on Thursday, June 16, at 3:00 p.m. as we commemorate Juneteenth through poetry. The panelist will look back, and honor those that came before us, through the exploration of the works of esteemed poets, examining their writings and providing insight on this pivotal moment.
