I'm looking for criteria people use to award them, a process/form for doing so, etc. Thanks! Amy Amy G. In my opinion, one should always charge or ask for something in return for attending ASIST (and any other training of its nature), both because there are real costs to you for each person's attendance and the American ethic of 'you get what you pay for'. You also need to consider your overall budget and see how many and what types of scholarships to give that still allows you the margin you will be satisfied with. There are many options: Offer a percentage off full rate (say maybe 25% - 50% depending on what your base rate is and how much of your total costs it covers). A flat rate that covers your hard costs only (kits, snacks, site) A flat rate that covers your kits only Something less than this but always require some money (even $10) and some volunteer role (signing people in, moving chairs, picking up the donuts each morning etc.) I suggest only giving 'free' scholarships if you receive something tangible in return (the training site, recruiting and registering participants, they buy four at full price and you give one for 'free'). One last thought ,whenever you offer ASIST at below market price, I think it is important to say why you are able to do so, in your advertising as well at the ASIST itself ,as in: "the true cost of this ASIST was supplemented by the generous financial support of _____________ and the volunteer support of _____________". My thoughts. Donna From: Kimberly Walker [mailto:walker49 at email.com] Sent: Sunday, April 07, 2013 7:02 PM To: NOONAN Donna Subject: Help Please Good evening everyone. I just completed my last ASIST training this weekend. I was wondering if anyone in the Salem area would like my supplies. While I don't have anymore version 10 handbooks or workbooks, I do have a new box of post-it flip charts, manuals, posters, overheads for version 10, manual, poster, jump drive for XI, and all the other miscellany in a tote box that goes with the territory. All for anyone who wants to come get it. I am really fully retiring now and moving to Southern California. Providing ASIST trainings around the state of Oregon the last 13 years has been one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life. I've left a couple of legacies: ASIST will continue to be provided on a regular basis to the staff of the Oregon Youth Authority and the inclusion of ASIST in the criminal justice program at Chemeketa Community College will go on without me. I will miss Gary Lasater. We've made quite a training team for 12 years. It has been my pleasure to know all of you. I will always admire the work that you do. To become a safeTALK trainer the only pre-requisite is that you have taken an ASIST as a participant.
