From MEGHAN.CRANE at dhsoha.state.or.us Fri Jul 31 16:06:15 2020 From: MEGHAN.CRANE at dhsoha.state.or.us (Crane Meghan) Date: Fri, 31 Jul 2020 23:06:15 +0000 Subject: [ASIST_Network] Update: Oregon Chapter NASW CE renewal, Oregon ASIST listserv and ASIST/safeTALK CE paperwork Message-ID: Happy Friday ASIST trainers! I hope that you are staying well during the challenging and unusual time. I am sure many of you are missing providing ASIST in your community as I am. I wanted to provide a few updates around ASIST support and opportunities in Oregon. Some of you may have heard about an expansion of state funds (over $6 million) approved by legislators during the 2019 legislative session to support OHA suicide prevention efforts. The planning and implementation of these funds are being led by my colleagues Jill Baker and Shanda Hochstetler at OHA. They have used some of these funds to support broader implementation and support of suicide prevention and mental training in the state under what they call the "Big Six" suicide prevention programs (Sources of Strength, QPR, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, safeTALK, and Connect postvention training). In order to implement this work, OHA is contracting with several organizations. Association of Oregon Community Mental Health Programs (AOCMHP) was awarded the contract to oversee Oregon ASIST and safeTALK work including creating a learning collaborative and organizing Training the Trainer opportunities. I am excited to introduce you to Tim Glascock, Statewide ASIST/safeTALK Coordinator! Please see an introduction email from him below. I encourage all of you to reach out, introduce yourself to Tim, and understand how this OHA sponsored work can benefit you and the broader Oregon ASIST community. I am still here supporting this work and please feel free to keep in touch - I hope you will! Given this new information, here are some updates: 1. Updated CE Forms: Tim is in the process of applying for Oregon Chapter NASW CE renewal. Tim will send out this paperwork and I will also post to this listserv once it has been finalized. As a reminder, trainers cannot offer CEs unless they have been approved by NASW to do so. All trainers in a training group must have been approved to offer CEs. It is a simple process to get new trainers approved. Please reach out to Tim with any questions you have. 2. Submitted CE Sign-In Sheets and Evaluation Forms: Tim will be taking over this responsibility. Once we have the renewed CE paperwork, we will send out updated instructions on submitting this paperwork. If you have questions in the meantime, please let Tim and I know. 3. OHA sponsored ASIST and safeTALK T4T Opportunities: Please see the attached email from Tim with information on applying to the ASIST T4T (Oct. 12-16th, 2020) and safeTALK T4T (Oct. 29-30th, 2020). Applications are due August 7. Please reach out to Tim with any questions. Message from Tim: Are you an ASIST and/or safeTALK trainer in Oregon? Do you coordinate ASIST and/or safeTALK for your organization or community? Maybe you coordinate suicide prevention trainings but your community does not yet have ASIST or safeTALK. Regardless, you are all invited to the Oregon ASIST/safeTALK Learning Collaborative! Many of you already know or are already connected with the new Oregon ASIST and safeTALK Learning Collaborative. For those who may not know yet or are not quite sure how this fits within the current work in the state, the Learning Collaborative is a part of a statewide effort to expand six suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention trainings. This effort builds upon that of the Oregon Alliance to Prevent Suicide and the many other state and local programs to prevent suicide. The Oregon ASIST/safeTALK Learning Collaborative is a monthly call/video-chat for Oregon trainers or coordinators to find support, coordinate trainings, and gain ongoing education. Whether you can join the calls or want to follow along with the minutes, we want to make sure this space is accessible as possible. The goal is to grow the capacity and ability of Oregon ASIST/safeTALK trainers. Currently, the meetings are set for the third Wednesday of the month at 10 am.
