<div>Thanks for your question. In my opinion, one should always charge or ask for something in return for attending ASIST (and any other training of its nature), both because there are real costs to you for each person's attendance and the American ethic of
'you get what you pay for'. You also need to consider your overall budget and see how many and what types of scholarships to give that still allows you the margin you will be satisfied with. There are many options:</div>

<div>Offer a percentage off full rate (say maybe 25% - 50% depending on what your base rate is and how much of your total costs it covers).</div>
<div>A flat rate that covers your hard costs only (kits, snacks, site)</div>
<div>A flat rate that covers your kits only</div>
<div>Something less than this but always require some money (even $10) and some volunteer role (signing people in, moving chairs, picking up the donuts each morning etc.)</div>
<div>I suggest only giving 'free' scholarships if you receive something tangible in return (the training site, recruiting and registering participants, they buy four at full price and you give one for 'free').</div>

<div>One last thought ,whenever you offer ASIST at below market price, I think it is important to say why you are able to do so, in your advertising as well at the ASIST itself ,as in: "the true cost of this ASIST was supplemented by the generous financial
support of _____________<span style="font-style: italic; "> </span>and the volunteer support of _____________".</div>
