Treasurer*s Report: Dede Henderson, CAPP Treasurer, reports that the CAPP balance is $9,845.88. Dede is in the process of changing the CAPP members authorized to sign CAPP checks. Dede will use the September 16th CAPP meeting minutes as CAPP approval for the changes. Leadership Roles are now filled. CAPP DVD * Aubrey Laverty and Diane Pietrzak presented a draft DVD for use by CAPP members when presenting to groups. The group suggested that the slides be shown for a longer period of time to allow the speaker to read the text. Aubrey will work on making the changes. (We learned after the meeting that it is not possible to email the slide show because the file is too large to go through email systems.) April, 2010 Business After Hours: The Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours April Event is not available. Greg Henderson and Elizabeth Droscher suggested that we hold the Rotary/CAPP Event in April at Phoenix School and send notice of it through the Chamber newsletter. Everything will basically be done the same as last year, but it will be a stand alone event rather than *After Hours.* All present agreed. Greg and Elizabeth will work on setting a date and bring it back to the group. 2010 Duck Race Calendar: Greg Henderson provided the group with the corporate sponsor committee schedule for the 2010 Duck Race. Race Day is August 28th. The 2010 goal is to raise $100,000. Corporate sponsorships will be available for $300. CAPP April Calendar: Elizabeth is starting work on the calendar for Child Abuse Prevention Month activities. She needs the specifics on all events by February so that the calendar can be distributed before school spring break. Mercy Foundation Mobile Medical Van will be invited to participate in this year*s Wildlife Safari event. Angela Collar, BPA, offers to help in any activities so please let her know when a need presents itself. Greg Henderson announced that May 8th is Family Safety Day. CAPP will have a table at the event. Pauline Martel announced that Adapt has been awarded $14,500 for 3 consecutive years to provide training in assisting and responding to prevent suicide. Adapt will be working with Phoenix, Days Creek, and South Umpqua schools. Pauline Martel also announced that a Girls Summit was held on December 4th at Boys & Girls Club. Pauline is applying to AAUW for a grant for a girls after school program at Days Creek and Coffenberry. Diane Pietrzak announced that Marilyn Carter applied for an ACHIEVE grant on behalf of Douglas County Health Department. Melody Ross announced that the Boys & Girls Club now has 350 kids participating! Congressman Peter DeFazio nominated the Boys & Girls Club as the Nike beneficiary of the Nike gift for winning the tennis shoe challenge. People are excited to see what Nike will send. Elizabeth Droscher agreed to chair the January meeting. The meeting was formally adjourned and we enjoyed holiday goodies. The information is needed to allow adequate time to format, print and distribute the April Child Abuse Prevention Month calendars prior to spring break. Elizabeth asked for input on what the group would like to have printed on the reverse side of the calendars. There is consensus that the 40 assets be used. Boys and Girls Club: Melody Ross announced that the Boys and Girls Club is planning a seminar on the 40 Development Assets for parents of children participating in the club. The plan is to hold it in the afternoon before their banquet. The date has not yet been finalized. Melody asked if CAPP is interested in participating in the event. The group expressed interest. Melody will get back with us when the date is finalized. Truth, Lies and Videotapes is scheduled for April 9th at Jacoby Auditorium, UCC. Danny Weiser asked if CAPP would like to have a table at the event. CAPP agrees to staff a table with brochures from member agencies. Diane Pietrzak and Melody Ross will set up and staff the table. CAPP agencies will please provide the brochures by the March CAPP meeting. South County Resource Fairis scheduled for March 25, 2010 form 3 to 5 pm at Forest Glen Lobby in Canyonville. Carla Bee from UCC and Debbie Wilson, Forest Glen, are putting the fair together. CAPP agrees to set up a display for CAPP agencies. Diane Pietrzak and Melody Ross will set it up & staff it. DHS will set up a table with benefit information. Child Abuse Prevention Month Rotary and CAPP Event: Greg Henderson and Elizabeth Droscher proposed that the CAPP/Rotary Event be scheduled for April 27 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at Phoenix School. CAPP agrees. Event discussion items: ? Potential guest speakers are Rick Wesenberg, District Attorney and John Hanlin, Douglas County Sheriff. ? Hope is to have music maybe a cappella group or background music ? Draft genda 5:30 start; 6 to 6:30 speakers; 6:30 to 7 networking and visiting resource tables ? Greg Henderson and Neil Hummel will handle advertisement through Chamber newsletter mailing ? Volunteers needed to call Rotary Club and Business partners a day or two before event. (Carla Bee offers assistance from the JOBS participants. They helped last year & appreciate the chance to use their customer service skills.) ? Greeters will be needed at the door. ? Greg & Elizabeth will contact media and newspaper. Greg will talk on TV ? Business cards will be used for a drawing. Greg and Neil will provide a basket for drawing prize. ? Rotary Clubs will be invited by Greg. ? Judy Robertson and Diane Pietrzak will work on draft criteria to use in recognizing one organization and one individual for their outstanding contributions to child abuse prevention efforts. We are considering this as an annual award. ? Each CAPP agency will bring a list of people & agencies who support kids so that we can recognize them at the event. At Risk Youth Services: Harry Mullins is researching potential community interest in formalizing communication around services to at risk youth and how to access the services. Harry expressed some ideas around potentially meeting quarterly, having an electronic network, and planting the seeds for such an organization. Group input included looking at Oregon Health Go Local as the potential web based data base. Diane invited Harry to speak to the Community Resource Networking Group at the February 16th Meeting from 10 am to noon at Oregon Pacific Bank Conference Room. Harry accepted the invitation. Shots for Tots: Greg Henderson asks that everyone keep our eyes open for the upcoming Shots for Tots event. Lynn Weaver is leading the effort. General CAPP Public Relations: Elizabeth Droscher is the CAPP Public Relations Chair. She will contact Brian Prawitz to line up talk show guests during April * Child Abuse Prevention Month.
