Transitioning Children with Sensitivity
Sandra McIlhenny
This module uses lecture, video and small group work to demonstrate the
importance of well-planned, sensitive transition plans for both children
and the people who care for them. The session outlines the need to
understand the developmental age and specific needs of the child and
tailor a transition plan specific to the child. In addition the session
emphasizes the importance of team development of a transition plan to
ensure all members of the transition are aware, supportive and capable
of fully and cooperatively implementing the plan. The session discusses
situations that can pose difficulties in a transition plan, and
behaviors and emotions that are common.
